Badgers look to prevent Wolverine ascension

The Wisconsin Badgers appear to be the only obstacle between Michigan and a return to the No. 1 spot in the land, when the two sides meet at the Kohl Center in Madison.

With both top ranked Indiana and No. 2 Florida the victims of successful upset bids during the week, the third-ranked Wolverines, 3/1 to win the NCAAB Championship, should move back atop the AP Top 25 poll if they can navigate their way past the Badgers.

That's not a given in a season where the top sides are routinely losing and Wisconsin are 3-4 against ranked opponents defeating Indiana, Illinois and Minnesota while losing to Florida, Creighton, Michigan State and Ohio State.

Moreover the matchup is an obvious trap game for the Wolverines after an emotional victory over Ohio State earlier in the week and the Spartans of Michigan State up next on the road in East Lansing.

Florida returns home to Gainesville to host Mississippi State after their defeat to the Razorbacks in Arkansas. Will Yeguete is done for the regular season after further injuring his knee in the 11-point loss and the Gators will miss their second leading rebounder despite a fairly easy SEC Conference schedule.

Also hoping to bounce back from a surprise defeat are Kansas who followed up their loss to Oklahoma State with a stinker against TCU at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worth, TX.

The Horned Frogs had not won a single Big-12 outing in eight tries coming into the game and yet held the Jayhawks to just 13-points in the first half on Wednesday.

Shooting less than 30% from the field Bill Self’s side was unable to overcome their slow start and must now travel to play an unpredictable Oklahoma Sooners’ side in Norman over the weekend.
