Melo time in New York

Carmelo Anthony secured a signature win for himself and the New York Knicks, dropping in 43 points in a 100-99 overtime victory against the Chicago Bulls.

Anthony was 16-of-31 from the field including four 3-pointers, 7-of-9 from the line and also pulled down seven rebounds as the Knicks not only defeated the Bulls, but pulled even with the Philadelphia 76ers in the Eastern Conference standings.

Tyson Chandler grabbed 16 rebounds in support of Anthony as New York spoiled the comeback of Derrick Rose, who suited up for Chicago for the first time since the middle of March.

Rose, the reigning MVP of the league, was understandably rusty hitting just 8-of-26 from the floor on his way to a team-high 29 points.

The Knicks are 5000/1 to win the Eastern Conference, with the Bulls 5000/1 and the Boston Celtics 9/2.

The Knicks now head out to Chicago for the back end of their home and home series with the Bulls and then move on to Milwaukee on Wednesday in a crucial match-up with the Bucks who remain ninth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Meanwhile, in Boston the 76ers were being crushed 103-79 by the Celtics. Kevin Garnett led all scorers with 20 points and Brandon Bass and Avery Bradley each had 18 in support as Boston opened up a 14-point half-time lead and won going away.

The Celtics now head south to Miami to play the Heat on Tuesday. LeBron James had 26 points to lead the Heat over the Detroit Pistons 98-75 at the American Airlines Arena. Miami was without Dwyane Wade, who sat out with a right ankle issue.
