Heat continue road trip in Brooklyn

The Eastern Conference-leading Miami Heat travel to Brooklyn on Wednesday with a game-and-a-half lead over the New York Knicks for the top seed.

It's the second in a four-game road swing that started with a loss at the TD Garden in Boston against the Celtics this past weekend and continues to Indiana and Toronto on Friday and Sunday. The Nets snapped their two-game losing streak when they defeated the Orlando Magic at the Barclays Center earlier in the week and it's been a good month for Brooklyn, who are 11-3 overall in January after opening with a seven-game winning streak.

The Magic make the short trip from Brooklyn to Madison Square Garden in New York and play the Atlantic Division leaders. Just 5-5 in their past 10 outings, the Knicks had too much for the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday when they defeated the visitors 106-104. Carmelo Anthony led the way with 42 points on 15-of-28 shooting from the floor and Amar'e Stoudemire and J.R. Smith both came off the bench to add 18 apiece.

The Hawks are also 5-5 in their past 10 games and have slipped to the sixth seed in the East. Fortunately for Atlanta it seems unlikely that the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors will put together any kind of a significant run to challenge the Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics for the final places in the playoff race despite there being half a season to run.

The Heat are 1/9 to win the Eastern Conference while the Knicks are 20/1 and the Nets are 7500/1.
