The San Francisco Giants send out Ryan Vogelsong on Sunday looking to extend the National League Championship series to a seventh and deciding game.

Vogelsong, the winner in Game 2 of the series will face Chris Carpenter for a second time this series after throwing seven innings of four hit ball in the 7-1 victory last Monday.

Coming off Barry Zito’s excellent Game 5 performance, the Giants would love a similar outing from the 35-year old right-hander. Matt Cain and Kyle Lohse are scheduled to go Monday should the seventh game be necessary at AT & T Park.

Off the field the Boston Red Sox, Oakland Athletics, Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks were all making news, the latter three combing for a series of trades that sent Heath Bell to the Diamondbacks and Chris Young to the Athletics.

Oakland initially sent infielder Cliff Pennington and minor leaguer Yordy Cabrera to Arizona for Young with the Diamondbacks then sending Cabrera on to the Marlins for Bell.

The veteran closer now becomes the set up man for J.J. Putz in a strong Arizona bullpen while the trade of Young frees up playing time for prospect Adam Eaton.

In Boston an announcement is expected shortly that the Red Sox have hired Toronto Blue Jays' manager John Farrell to be their new skipper.

The Giants are 8/5 to win the World Series, with the Detroit Tigers 5/9.

A well respected former pitching coach in Boston, Farrell has been the top target all along after the firing of Bobby Valentine and the only issue was whether the Blue Jays would let their manager move to a Division rival.
