Serena set to feature at Brisbane

Five-time Australian Open winner Serena Williams will take part in the Brisbane International tournament despite undergoing minor surgery on her problematic feet.

The 15-time Major winner, who is 5/6 to win next month's Australian Open, has withdrawn from an exhibition match in Thailand following the surgery.

The American world number three has been dogged by foot problems after stepping on glass in 2010 soon after winning the Wimbledon title. Williams is 2/5 to win the SW19 tournament once again in 2013.

Brisbane International tournament director Cameron Pearson confirmed: "She'll be fit and ready for Brisbane. She just needed a little bit more time than what the Thailand exhibition match gave her to be ready.

"I guess it's a bit of a compliment that she wants to tailor her preparation around playing Brisbane."

Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova will also be taking part in the Brisbane International which is set to begin on 30th December.
