Ivanovic motivated for Hopman success

Ana Ivanovic wants to set the record straight at the Hopman Cup, to set herself up for a strong 2013.

The Serb will link up again with world No.1 Novak Djokovic at the mixed-teams event, starting on Saturday. And she has plenty of motivation to succeed, after falling short in disappointing circumstances two years ago. Ivanovic and Djokovic reached the final of the event in 2010, but she was struck down with a stomach strain on the eve of the decider and had to forfeit.

I have to keep working hard and believing, and that's what it comes down to.

The former world No.1 said: "We were so close and it was a big disappointment the way it ended last time.

"I felt so bad, and for Novak too, so I really hope this year we can put it together and go all the way."

Ivanovic wants 2013 to be the year she adds to her sole Grand Slam title - from the French Open in 2008 - and return to the top 10. She is ranked 13th after a consistent year in which she reached the quarter-finals of the US Open.

"I definitely want to get back to top 10. That was my goal for this year and I was very close," Ivanovic said. "So I hope I can break that next year and put myself in a position to get far in the big events.

"There were a few girls who dominated this year. I put myself in a position to play against the top players. I really couldn't make that break (of beating them), but that's a big goal for next year.

"I have to keep working hard and believing, and that's what it comes down to."

Ivanovic and Djokovic face a tough challenge in Perth, with the USA boasting seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams and world No.14 John Isner.

Australia are seeded eighth for the tournament, where Bernard Tomic will be partnered by 16-year-old Ashleigh Barty, after Casey Dellacqua failed to recover from a foot injury.

Australia are 20/1 to win the Hopman Cup while Serbia can be backed at 8/11.
