Grand Slam possible says Serena

Five-time winner Serena Williams believes that whoever triumphs at the Australian Open in January will have one eye on a potential Grand Slam in 2013.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a superlative second half of 2012, winning Wimbledon, the US Open and the Tour Championships, as well as triumphing at the Olympic Games.

Now the 15-time Major winner has her eyes set on another fantastic year and hopes that success in Melbourne will act as a springboard to further glory.

"I think maybe whoever wins the Australian Open will have that same thought," Williams said.

"I think there is no way that Victoria Azarenka or Maria Sharapova or maybe some other players don't feel the same way. So I think I definitely feel that way."

Williams is 5/6 to win the Australian Open, with defending champion Azarenka 3/1 and Sharapova 8/1.

Meanwhile, Williams was happy with her return to action at the Brisbane International, having undergone surgery on a foot injury recently.

She added after seeing off Varvara Lepchenko 6-2 6-1: "I was a little nervous, but I was completely fine."
