Andy Murray will face Roger Federer in the Australian Open semi-finals after the Swiss eventually saw off Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in five sets.

The second seed came through 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-3 in an epic encounter that lasted three hours and 34 minutes.

I'm looking forward to the match [against Andy Murray], it's going to be tough.

After losing the first set on a tie-break, Tsonga came back superbly to take the second. Federer again won a tie-break to claim the third but the Frenchman battled back to take the match to a deciding set. However, the world number two had too much for his opponent, breaking his serve early, and held on to see out the victory.

Federer will now take on Murray on Friday and is looking forward to renewing their rivalry. Murray gained revenge for his Wimbledon final defeat with a dominant display at the Olympics, but the Swiss won their most recent meeting, at the ATP World Tour Finals in London in November.

Federer is 9/2 to win in four sets, while Murray is at 11/4. A straight sets win for the second seed is at 6/1.
"I've got to recover a little but I'm going to be fine - I'm young you know, I recover quick!" said the 31-year-old.

"I'm looking forward to the match, it's going to be tough, he had a great year last year, winning his first Grand Slam and Olympic gold. He is a great guy and a great player."
