Australia have taken another step towards qualifying for the Federation Cup World Group after thrashing Switzerland by a margin of 4-1 in Fribourg.

Samantha Stosur comfortably won her match in Fribourg.

Singles players Jarmila Gajdosova and Samantha Stosur won their respective matches to give their country a 2-0 lead and the tie was settled when team mates Casey Dellacqua and Jelena Dokic combined to win their doubles match.

Samantha Stosur is 12/1 to win the 2012 French Open, while Serena William is 12/1 and Petra Kvitova 14/1.

The Kangaroos will now play one of the losing countries from the first round of the World Group, which will decide their qualification for the elite eight-nation tournament that will take place in 2013.

Gajdosova won a hard-fought match against world No.219 Amra Sadikovic on an indoor clay court. The final score was 6-3 3-6 8-6 in the Aussie girl's favour.

Stosur on the other hand didn't break a sweat and swept aside her opponent Stefanie Voegele in straight sets.

"It has boosted my confidence and it is exactly the way I wanted to play as soon as I got over here. You want to win as many matches as possible to erase anything negative and it does not matter the opposition, it is always good to win," Stosur said after the match.

Australian captain David Taylor hailed Gajdosova's efforts especially as the match was another marathon for her after she had been defeated by Voegele just a day earlier.

"You could not have written a better script for her redemption today after yesterday's defeat. She was much better emotionally, she handled the crowd better and she handled the blows. She was serving at 5-3 for the match and played a poor game to lose the game. But she believed there would be another opportunity for her," Taylor said.
