Twiston-Davies in cautious mood

Nigel Twiston-Davies is optimistic rather than confident that The New One is capable of winning the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

It's impossible for him to go further than that as the horse has never met what are considered by most to be the Big Two - Hurricane Fly and Our Conor.

We'll probably school him over fences and see how he goes.

But with Nicky Henderson's seven-year-old, My Tent Or Yours, suffering an injury to his sole which creates a doubt over his participation, he looks the most likely contender to upset the Irish applecart if that's to be the case.

Twiston-Davies holds his charge in the highest regard and believes that his ability to quicken is the big ace in his pack. Indeed he has even described that kick as 'phenomenal'.

The New One, however, is prone to the odd mistake and that is what could cost him over the stiff hurdles which the Hurricane relishes.

However, he's not one to count out of it and Our Conor too represents a big challenge.

The New One can be backed at 1/1 to win the Champion Hurdle, with Hurricane Fly 1/1 and Our Conor 1/1.

Meanwhile, Twiston-Davies has a plan should The New One get beaten and that's to put him over three miles declaring: "Big Buck's isn't going to be around forever. We'll probably school him over fences and see how he goes."
