Midnight Chase set to light up Cheltenham

It would be a very brave soul indeed to look any further than Midnight Chase for today's Majordomo Hospitality Handicap Chase as racing returns to Cheltenham this afternoon.

For trainer Neil Mulholland's ten-year-old has won five races at the West Country track in a dominating front-running style and is 4/1 to win the 1.55 today.

And, although this is a Grade 3 Class One affair, it most certainly has not attracted an in-depth field of quality chasers.

Only Bradley - who has also shown a liking for the track - appears to represent serious opposition to the top weight.

It would be easier to take Planet of Sound a little more seriously were it not for the fact that he finished well beaten by 28 lengths to Paul Nicholls' rising star Silviniaco Conti. Midnight Chase was 10 lengths closer and is better off at the weights today so the form at the weights is in his favour.

Mulholland's charge was reported not fully wound up for that appearance and can be expected to have come on a lot for the run. Uncle Junior has been a revelation since being put over cross country races and can lift the Glenfarcles Cross Country Handicap Chase (2.30).

Trainer Willie Mullins leads an Irish charge for this race but take note of the clever Nick Williams who has Maljimar at the foot of the handicap.

Williams - whose star For Non Stop has been in rude health this season - rarely runs horses for the benefit of their health so it will be worth keeping an eye on this one in the betting.
