McCoy makes Cantlow admission

AP McCoy has disappointed the connections of Cantlow after driving the horse to victory at Plumpton on Monday.

The seven-year-old beat off the attentions of Nicky Henderson's Oscara Dara to put himself in with a shout of a £60,000 Cheltenham bonus.

But, despite winning with a degree of comfort, AP isn't at all sure that the horse can become a Cheltenham hero and give owner John McManus and trainer Paul Webber some West Country cheer.

McCoy said: "He did okay but it was more about him being fit from previous runs against horses without that advantage."

The jockey added: "It's been suggested that he needs it soft underfoot but I don't think that's not necessarily the case. He did well on the ground but made one enormous mistake down the back when he ploughed through one of the fences.

"He certainly won't be able to do that at the Cheltenham fences. And whether he could win over there is unsure. We'll just take it as it comes but no predictions from me on that one."

McCoy can be backed at 40/1 to be the 2013 Cheltenham Festival top jockey.
