McCoy left to rue error

AP McCoy demonstrated yesterday that he was as human as the rest of us and fully capable of making the odd error of judgement.

Having ridden Minella for Steak to victory for his stable at 6/4, he chose to desert his gaffer Jonjo O'Neill's More of That in the Maiden Hurdle and trailed hopelessly adrift in third place as the 20/1 won in a canter.

Embarrassing didn't begin to cover it for the Irishman who had given his own mount Mountain Retreat his very best shot but finished up beaten by the easiest 22 lengths possible.

His loss was More of That jockey Richie McLernon's gain and he looks a horse likely to live up to his name in the near future. It was his National Hunt bow and he looked a horse to the manner born.

The jockey though warned against anyone getting too carried away admitting that he didn't think the form of the race would add up to "very much."

He said: "It was very heavy out there and that suited mine more than the others perhaps but you can't knock the manner of the victory.

"He wants those sort of conditions of course but to be fair he jumped very well and answered all my calls such as they were because not a lot was needed."

Meanwhile Sprinter Sacre is 1/4 to win the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham in three months' time while Peddlers Cross can be backed at 999/1 and Al Ferof at 999/1.
