Pochettino to give youth its chance

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino is set to hand youth its chance in Thursday's Europa League clash with Besiktas.

Both teams have already qualified for the last-32 so Harry Winks and Josh Onomah will have the opportunity to shine in Turkey.

Winks, 18, and Onomah, 17, have been named in the squad for the game but Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor has not after he was given permission to return home for personal reasons.

The club's Twitter feed said: "This is a private matter and so we will not be providing any further comment."

Midfielder Winks made his debut in the Europa League win against Partizan Belgrade at White Hart Lane in November, while Onomah has yet to make a first-team appearance for Spurs.

Pochettino is a big fan of the club's youth team system, and said earlier this season: "Tottenham have spent a lot of money on the academy and creating a magnificent training ground and now we need to get the benefit from that. We have to create the structure to provide the chance to play in the first team.

"We have great talent in the academy, the staff are unbelievable people who work very hard and who have a passion for football. We need to give the vehicle for these young players to arrive in the first team."

Spurs are 16/1 to win the Europa League this season and 28/1 to beat Besiktas 3-0 on Thursday.
