Roma move to end Strootman talk

Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has attempted to kill off speculation linking midfielder Kevin Strootman with a January move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international is currently recovering from a serious knee injury which forced him to miss the World Cup finals in Brazil in the summer.

He will return soon and he is not on the market.

However, that has not stopped the rumour mill from suggesting that the ex-PSV Eindhoven man is heading to Old Trafford to link up with former Oranje head coach Louis van Gaal.

Sabatini, though, is adamant that no deal is on the cards, with Strootman a key player for Roma when he is fit, having moved to the Stadio Olimpico in the summer of 2013.

He told the Italian media: "I have found that all of the lavish things that are coming out are stories that are all from England.

"There is no issue with Strootman, who is one of our important players and who we miss very much. There have been months now without him and around him we had built a style of play.

"He will return soon and he is not on the market - we will give him the time needed to recover to being the same as before."

Having secured a 1-1 Champions League draw at Manchester City in midweek, the Giallorossi face a massive Serie A showdown with champions Juventus in Turin on Sunday, with both sides having won five out of five in the Italian league.

Roma can be backed at 15/4 to gain a victory, with the draw 5/2, while Juve are 3/4 to secure victory.
