Villas-Boas hopes Bale stays
Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that Gareth Bale may leave White Hart Lane in the summer if Tottenham fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.
The 23-year-old Wales international is enjoying another fine campaign and has already scored 17 goals for club and country.
However, he continues to be linked with a transfer to Real Madrid at the end of this season and Villas-Boas has revealed that such a move is a possibility.
Spurs, who are 21/10 to finish in the top four this season, face Newcastle United on Saturday. They are 7/1 to win the match 2-1 with Bale 5/1 to open the scoring.
Villas-Boas said of Bale: "Players who are performing at this level always get the attention. It doesn't mean that the club doesn't foresee a future with Gareth. It's intimately related to the objectives that we achieve for the season.
"Hopefully, we can do just that with the Champions League and continue to progress on what we are doing. I think we can reach our objectives with him at this level and, if we reach our objectives, we can hopefully continue to have Gareth in our club."
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Adebayor could start for Spurs against Newcastle even though he has been on Togo duty at the African Nations Cup for almost a month, but Jermain Defoe is out for up to three weeks with an ankle injury.
