Tottenham Hotspur believe the return of Scott Parker can make all the difference to their top-four ambitions this season.

The north London outfit are once again in the mix to secure a Champions League placing for next term, although boss Andre Villas-Boas may add to his side in January, with a striker high on his list of priorities.

We have been really patient with him and now I think he is almost ready.

Spurs, 21/10 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, host Stoke City this weekend at White Hart Lane and could hand a start to Parker, who is almost back to peak fitness after being out since the summer with an Achilles injury.

Parker has managed to get some minutes under his belt over the last fortnight and has impressed in training this week, with former boss Harry Redknapp understood to be keen to sign him for Queens Park Rangers, 1/1000 to be relegated this season.

Villas-Boas, however, is well aware of the attributes Parker can bring and believes he can provide some fresh impetus to his team-mates between now and the end of the season.

The Portuguese chief insists: "Scott will be playing regularly. He takes us to another level. We have been really patient with him and now I think he is almost ready.

"Scott is an England player, a former Player of the Year and we need cover. We won't be letting him go."
