Taarabt boost for QPR

QPR boss Harry Redknapp had asked Adel Taarabt to remain with QPR, but the decision has been taken out of the midfielder's hands regardless.

QPR midfielder Adel Taarabt has been omitted from the Morocco squad for the African Cup of Nations.

The forward had stated he was keen to link up with his country for the tournament but he has not been included in coach Rachid Taoussi's provisional 24 man squad, which needs to be cut down to 23.

The 23-year-old will now be available for crucial league games for QPR against West Ham, Swansea, Manchester City and Norwich.

Taarabt had fallen out of favour with Taoussi but was hopeful of being included for the AFCON competition in South Africa.

Morocco have included Premier League pair Oussama Assaidi and Karim El Ahmadi, of Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively, but there is no place for the QPR star.

QPR, who are unbeaten since Harry Redknapp took charge, host West Brom on Boxing Day and are 11/8 to take all three points.

The Baggies can be backed at 2/1 and the draw is priced at 23/10.
