Rodgers laments Allen injury

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers fears that Joe Allen could miss the start of the season after the former Swansea City man picked up a knock against Swindon Town.

The game was the last pre-season match for the Reds before their campaign gets underway on Sunday at Stoke City.

Wales midfielder Allen lasted just 13 minutes before damaging his hamstring and is a doubt for the opening game at the Britannia Stadium.

"I think Joe was his hamstring, unfortunately, so that doesn't look so good for us," said Rodgers after his side's 2-1 win against the League One side.

Meanwhile, Christian Benteke scored on his first Liverpool appearance since joining the club from Aston Villa for £32.5million last month.

"Christian's goal was incredible," added Rodgers. "It was wonderful technique from the big guy."

Liverpool, who are 1/1 to finish in the top four in the 2015/16 season, begin the new Premier League season away at Stoke on Sunday 9th August. They are 1/1 to win with the home side at 1/1.
