Striker Loic Remy has targeted a place in the France World Cup squad after completing a season-long loan move from QPR to Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old netted six Premier League goals in 14 appearances for the Hoops last season following his January arrival from Marseille, but was unable to help his side escape relegation from the top-flight.

He gives us strength and pace up front and I'm sure he'll bring plenty of goals.

Now Remy has earned himself a return to the Premier League and has high hopes for the coming campaign.

He told the club after arriving on Tyneside: "The Premier League is the best league in the world and that's where I want to play.

"I am very motivated this year to get into the World Cup squad for my country. I know in order to do that I need to have a big season and a successful campaign with Newcastle United."

Magpies manager Alan Pardew is delighted with the signing of Remy, adding: "He'll be a great addition to the squad, he gives us strength and pace up front and I'm sure he'll bring plenty of goals."

Newcastle open their new league campaign with a trip to Manchester City on Monday 19th August, with United 11/2 to secure a draw at the Etihad Stadium.

The Citizens are 1/4 to win on home turf and are 11/2 to triumph by a 2-0 scoreline.
