Moyes admits defeat in top-four chase

Everton manager David Moyes has conceded that his side's hopes of finishing in the top four are over after the 1-0 defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The loss leaves Everton five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and Rafa Benitez's side two games in hand on Moyes' men.

I don't think we can qualify now.

Everton are now 150/1 to finish in the top four, while Chelsea can be backed at 1/100, Tottenham at 21/10 and Arsenal at 4/11.

Leighton Baines' error allowed Stephane Sessegnon to score the only goal of a poor encounter just before half time as Everton struggled to create many clear-cut chances.

After the disappointing defeat, Moyes admitted: "I don't think we can qualify now.

"We had to keep winning and keep on going, and even if we did keep on winning we would still have been outsiders. This defeat means we have to put an end to all that.

"We can just keep winning games and who knows. We will try and finish in a Europa League position."
