Lampard has the chance to shine

Frank Lampard has another opportunity tonight to show Chelsea they are making a huge mistake when he plays in the Premier League fixture against Southampton.

If the Blues win the Stamford Bridge clash, they will close the gap on the two Manchester teams at the top of the Premier League table. Chelsea are currently available at 250/1 to win the title.

Chelsea simply can't afford to lose Frank's knowledge.

Lampard's future in west London is in doubt with his contract due to expire this summer, and the club's top brass have already indicated the England man will not be offered a renewal.

But the 34-year-old has displayed both his professionalism and talent in equal abundance in recent weeks to become a pivotal cog in Chelsea's revival.

Lampard has scored five times in his last seven outings and fans still hold the fear a club could come in before the end of the January window and spirit him away.

Chelsea are expected to remain unchanged from the side that slammed four goals past Stoke City at the weekend, although Eden Hazard has a slight leg knock.

Lampard is 5/1 to open the scoring against Southampton in a game the Blues can be backed at 7/1 to win 2-1.

Former Blues player and coach, Ray Wilkins, believes his former club will drop a major clanger by letting Lampard leave.

Wilkins insists: "Chelsea simply can't afford to lose Frank's knowledge. There is no substitute for experience. How many clubs have a player with his quality and experience on tap?"
