Veteran Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has penned a new contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until the end of next season.

The 41-year-old United States shot-stopper moved to Spurs from Aston Villa in the summer of 2010 and has gone on to make 49 appearances for the north London outfit.

He played in 310 consecutive matches earlier in his career, a Premier League record, but has lost his place in Andre Villas-Boas' side recently to Frenchman Hugo Lloris.

"We are delighted to announce that Brad Friedel has signed a new contract with the club until 2014," Spurs revealed on their official website.

Friedel would have been a free agent at the end of this season and free to talk to other teams in January, but will now challenge Lloris, Heurelho Gomes and Carlo Cudicini for a starting spot for the next 18 months.

Spurs travel to Aston Villa on Boxing Day and are 8/1 to win the match 2-0. They are 21/10 to finish in the top four of the Premier League this term and 1212/1 to clinch the Europa League.
