Fernandinho on course to face Spurs

Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho is set to hand Manchester City a major boost ahead of Sunday's clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The samba star has been laid low with a leg knock and missed City's shock defeat last time out to Sunderland.

But the 28-year-old has responded well to treatment over the last 48 hours and is now considered a decent bet to face Andre Villa-Boas' team.

Manchester City, 1/50 to win the Premier League title outright this season, can be backed at 8/1 to beat Spurs 2-1, with Fernandinho available at 16/1 to open the scoring.

Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini has also been told striker Stevan Jovetic is making good progress from a hamstring injury and could make the bench against the north Londoners.

We are playing well and the defeats we have suffered this season have been down to individual errors, not the team playing badly.

But City are still set to be without their talismanic skipper Vincent Kompany. The Belgian defender has been out for over a month with a groin strain.

Kompany is back in full training but medics think it will be at least another week before he can be considered for selection.

Pellegrini, meanwhile, insists: "We are playing well and the defeats we have suffered this season have been down to individual errors, not the team playing badly."
