Nigel Clough has warned his Sheffield United players that they can't win their play-off clash against Swindon Town in the first leg at Bramall Lane but they can lose it.
The Blades are available at 1/1 to win Thursday's first leg 2-0 and can be backed at 1/1 to secure promotion from League One this season.
United have never won promotion via the play-offs before but have an exceptional recent cup record, reaching the FA Cup semi-finals last season and the last four of this term's Capital One Cup, before being knocked out by Tottenham.
We have told the players that the last 46 games don't count for anything.Nigel Clough
Clough said: "This is a fresh start and we have as good a chance as anyone. Records only count if you allow them to.
"We have told the players that the last 46 games don't count for anything. So, previous seasons definitely don't. This is a three-game mini-cup season now. Nothing else matters.
"We went to the FA Cup semi-final last year and I was told we had never even scored at Wembley and never done this or that. But we got three goals and gave Hull City a massive fright. It is the same sort of approach this time.
"Very few of these games are decided in the first leg. The real one will be Monday's second leg but we have to put ourselves in a good position for that game."
Since United were relegated from the Championship four years ago, they have finished third, fifth, seventh and now fifth in League One.
