Argentina desperate for Copa success

Argentina captain Lionel Messi wants a trophy to show for his efforts.

Argentina's array of superstars are desperate to end their country's long wait for a trophy in the Copa America Final against Chile.

Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero have spoken of the strong desire within the squad to atone for defeat to Germany in last summer's World Cup Final in Brazil by defeating the host nation in the Estadio Nacional in Santiago.

Argentina, 1/1 to win the final, have not won the Copa America since 1993 and Messi says this "golden generation" are keen to end that run, particularly after coming so close in Rio last summer.

As a team, we deserve to win something and it would mean so much.

"This generation is desperate to win a title with the national team," said the 28-year-old Barcelona forward.

"As a team, we deserve to win something and it would mean so much after the World Cup where we came so close."

Messi is 1/1 to score in the final as he seeks to end the 22-year wait for a major trophy for La Albiceleste.

Manchester City striker Aguero, 1/1 to score the first goal of the final, has joined his captain in rallying the troops.

"If this generation of players don't win anything we're going to regret it for the rest of our lives," Aguero declared.

Argentina would join Uruguay as the most successful side in the tournament's history if they win a 14th Copa America title.

The hosts Chile are 1/1 to win the Copa America final but they have never beaten Argentina at the Copa America in 24 attempts.
