Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara's season could be over after he suffered a knee injury during Saturday's 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim.

The former Barcelona star could be sidelined for up to eight weeks and will definitely miss Bayern's two Champions League quarter-final encounters with Manchester United.

He suffered a partial tear to his medial ligaments in his right knee and was substituted after 25 minutes.

Thiago had an X-ray after the match and club doctor Dr Hans-Wilhelm Müller Wohlfahrt has confirmed he will be out for between "six to eight weeks".

It's very bad news and we will miss him badly.

Head coach Pep Guardiola said: "It's very bad news and we will miss him badly."

Thiago has made 16 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern Munich this season.

Bayern are available at 1/1 to beat Manchester United 2-0 in Tuesday's first-leg encounter at Old Trafford and can be backed at 12/5 to win the Champions League outright for a second successive season.

Bayern's draw against Hoffenheim was only the third time they have dropped points this season in 28 league matches. They clinched the Bundesliga title on Tuesday when they beat Hertha Berlin in the German capital.

United can be backed at 1/1 to cause a shock by edging to a 1-0 victory against Bayern on Tuesday and are 1/1 to qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League.
