Sky Blues trio extend deals
Sydney FC have secured three of their young players on longer contracts ahead of Saturday's trip to Newcastle.
Midfielder Terry Antonis, who made his Socceroos debut in Hong Kong earlier this month, is the youngest of the trio at 19.
He is joined by 21-year-old Rhyan Grant and Sebastian Ryall, 21, who have each signed new two-year deals at the club.
Coach Frank Farina welcomed the deals, saying he had been impressed with them since he took over at the helm from the departed Ian Crook.
Farina said: "They are all local boys and have been at Sydney FC for a few years now so it's great news they have agreed to stay at the club.
"All three of the boys have done very well this year and they have impressed me since I arrived with their enthusiasm, commitment and obviously their ability on the pitch."
Antonis said: "It's a great feeling, signing another two years here.
"(I'm) born and bred in Sydney, so it's an honour to play for this club."
The Sky Blues hope to take advantage of the Jets' current struggles as they bid to climb off the bottom of the ladder.
Newcastle have not win in their past five games, while Sydney look to bounce back after last week's 2-0 derby loss to Western Sydney.
Marquee signing Alessandro Del Piero is fit again after shrugging off a hamstring strain, but Pascal Bosschaart and Jason Culina are ruled out.
"Very big game, for both us and Newcastle," Farina said.
"It's been a good week of preparation, but we've got to turn up tomorrow and turn that into good use."
Sydney FC are 11/5 to beat Newcastle Jets, who are 6/5 to take three points from the clash.
