Miller becomes youngest A-League coach

Former Fulham U21-team coach Scott Miller has been unveiled as Newcastle Jets' new coach.

The 33-year-old becomes the youngest coach in A-League history, but will have the experienced Jean-Paul de Marigny as his assistant.

The pair have been appointed by Football Federation Australia on two-year contracts, with the FFA having taken over the running of the troubled club since the end of last season.

He has shown the FFA Technical Staff that he has the right qualities, philosophies, qualifications and experience to take the step up to a head coach role.

Head of the A-League Damien de Bohun said Miller had had valuable experience at Fulham, who are 1/1 to be promoted from the Championship.

"He has shown the FFA Technical Staff that he has the right qualities, philosophies, qualifications and experience to take the step up to a head coach role and I'm delighted he's been secured for Newcastle Jets," added de Bohun.

"Jean-Paul brings vast knowledge of Australian football and the A-League, and like Scott has excellent qualifications and experience. Together, they make a compelling combination for the Jets."

Newcastle are 1/1 to win the 2015-16 Grand Final.

De Marigny, 51, played two games for the Socceroos and was assistant coach at the Jets in 2005-06, more recently holding the same position with A-League champions Melbourne Victory.

Miller said it was a wonderful opportunity for him to take the next step in his coaching career at a club that was making a new beginning.

"I've heard a lot about the long and proud history of this football region and its passionate fans," he added. "Football clubs exist to bring joy to the people and that's a driving force in my thinking."

Miller was a member of Ange Postecoglou's backroom staff with the Socceroos in 2013, and clearly impressed the Australia coach who headed the FFA panel in charge of appointing the new Jets coach.
