Ferguson to stick with winning formula

Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson has revealed that he will not change his winning formula for Saturday's all-important clash with Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.

The Glory's bench players Steven McGarry, Scott Neville and Todd Howarth impressed in last week's 3-2 defeat of Wellington Phoenix, after which it was suggested that the trio should be handed starting roles.

But Ferguson has made it clear that he is not going to fix what isn't broken and will keep on playing the same starting line-up that has brought the Glory this far in the finals.

The qualification final between Central Coast and Perth will be played on Saturday at Bluetongue Stadium. The Mariners are 13/8 to win, with the Glory at 3/1 and the draw at 11/5.

Ferguson told the press: "As far as we're concerned it will be the same 11 that starts. Considering all the injury worries we've had over the past few weeks, it's nice to get the same 11 on the park again. There's going to be a lot of disappointment for a lot of boys (who missed out). Every one of them has contributed this season and it's disappointing for them. But I've got to make some tough decisions."

He then revealed that he did want to restore McGarry into his starting XI last week, but resisted the temptation as a result of striker Billy Mehmet's form.

"There was a temptation there but Billy scored a goal for us, (Shane) Smeltzy is on fire, we're getting support from Liam (Miller) through the middle. Stevie has still got a bit of a niggle but he should be able to get through again what he did the other night (coming in with 20 minutes left)," the Glory boss added.
