Haddin leaves Caribbean for Australia

Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has left the West Indies for Australia due to personal reasons, meaning his understudy Matthew Wade may make his Test debut too on the Caribbean tour.

The news was first broken by Cricket Australia spokesperson Peter Young, who simply tweeted: "Brad Haddin is returning from Windies for personal reasons. There will no further comment from or on his behalf."

We hope that Brad will be able to rejoin the squad in the West Indies in the not too distant future.

Due to his poor performances of late on the international Test circuit, Haddin's position in the Baggy Green squad has been under a lot of pressure and the confirmation of that came in the midweek when selector Rod Marsh made it clear that the 34-year-old's future depends on his performance in the first Test.

Australian National Selection Panel chairman John Inverarity then said that Haddin could return back to the West Indies after sorting out his matters at home. They have called up New South Wales wicketkeeper Peter Nevill as his replacement.

In an official press statement, Inverarity said: "Brad Haddin is in transit returning to Australia for personal reasons and has the full support of CA, the NSP and his team-mates in so doing. We hope that Brad will be able to rejoin the squad in the West Indies in the not too distant future.

"The NSP has selected Peter Nevill as Brad's replacement and Peter will head to the West Indies as soon as possible. Peter has just completed an outstanding season with New South Wales, both with the gloves and the bat.

"He was the overwhelming choice of his fellow Sheffield Shield cricketers as wicket-keeper in the Australian Cricketers' Association All Star Team of the Year announced at the State Cricket Awards this week."

Meanwhile, Australia are 8/1 to reclaim the Ashes in 2013 while England can be backed at 1/20. A draw is available at 8/1.
