Deschamps motivated by Euros loss

France boss Didier Deschamps is determined to make up for the disappointment of two years ago by leading his side to glory in the final of World Cup 2018.

Les Bleus suffered the heartbreak of being beaten 1-0 on home soil by Portugal in the final of the 2016 European Championships, but they have given themselves an opportunity to more than make up for that disappointment by progressing to a third World Cup final.

I was there two years ago and it was so painful that we want to taste the victory now.

1-0 win over neighbours Belgium left France awaiting the winners of the second semi-final between England and Croatia, with Deschamps desperate to take the opportunity which awaits in Moscow on Sunday.

He said: "I was there two years ago and it was so painful that we want to taste the victory now.

"We are going to do everything to be on the right side and make sure what happened two years ago does not happen again. With our state of mind we can climb mountains and that is what we have done."

Meanwhile, Deschamps says he will not get carried away in the nostalgia of him having been captain of France when they claimed their only previous World Cup success in 1998.

He added: "I never mention my own history. The players know it - some of them were not born but they have seen the pictures. The story is different now, I can't make comparisons and can't talk to them about players from ten or 20 years ago.

"Now is the time to make a new, beautiful page. One must live in their times, we can't look back and see what is in the rear-view mirror."

France are 1/2 to win World Cup 2018 outright, while Croatia can be backed at 13/8 and England at 40/1.
