Flames crush the Sabres
The Calgary Flames completed a season sweep over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday with a 5-1 victory over their hosts at the KeyBank Center.
Under the radar for most of the season as the Vegas Golden Knights have set the pace in the Pacific Division with the San Jose Sharks and the Los Angeles Kings chasing, the Flames like the Anaheim Ducks have kept around and are now hoping to make a push down the stretch.
For the Ducks that means moving into second place in the Division behind the Golden Knights, 19/2 to win the Stanley Cup, while the Flames are in fifth, a point out of the postseason places.
On Friday Calgary are in Ottawa to face the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre in the finale of their three-game road trip that started with a regulation point against the Pittsburgh Penguins, 29/2 to win the Stanley Cup, at the PPG Paints Arena before falling in overtime.
Meanwhile, Anaheim are in Nashville on Thursday to take on a red-hot Predators side that have won nine in a row to take a commanding lead in the Central Division. Fresh from a 4-0 defeat of the Washington Capitals earlier in the week the Ducks, 28/1 to win the Stanley Cup, will fancy their chances of getting something from the two game-trip that also includes a visit to the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center.
Over in Detroit, the Golden Knights will face the Red Wings. Just 5-4-1 in their last 10 outings, Vegas have a nine-point lead over the Ducks and, while the Golden Knights are not going to miss the postseason, they do appear to be running out of steam.
