Capitals visit Southern California
The defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals play two games in two days facing the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday and the Los Angeles Kings on Monday.
The Capitals arrive in Orange County to take on the Ducks at the Honda Center in Anaheim after defeating the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center on Thursday.
The Capitals spotted Kevin Labance his 11th of the season early in the first period and then scored five unanswered for a 5-1 triumph. In the process Washington also avoided a season sweep at the hands of San Jose having lost 7-6 in overtime in January.
Thursday T.J. Oshie scored twice, Alex Ovechkin recorded his 39th of the campaign and Jakub Vrana and Tom Wilson also lit the lamp for the visitors.
Ovechkin continues to lead the league in goals ahead of Jeff Skinner of the Buffalo Sabres and Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Sunday and Monday's games are contests three and four for the Capitals in their current six-game road swing which will include games against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Buffalo Sabres before heading home to host the New York Rangers next Sunday.
Washington is second in the Metropolitan Division, five points behind the surprising New York Islanders. They are 1/50 to win the division with the Islanders 11/1.
Comfortable 5-2 winners over the Edmonton Oilers at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, the Islanders will return to the ice on Wednesday as they face the other surprising team of the season in the Calgary Flames.
The Capitals are 5000/1 to win the Stanley Cup this year with the Toronto Maple Leafs 5000/1.
