Blue Devils and Tar Heels meet

The eyes of the college basketball world will be on the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill on Thursday evening as the North Carolina Tar Heels entertain the Duke Blue Devils.

Quite possibly the best rivalry in all of North American sports, the Tar Heels and the Blue Devils meet with the latter ranked #9 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll, while North Carolina is #21.

Duke appeared to get caught looking ahead over the weekend when they travelled to Madison Square Garden in New York and were stunned by the Red Storm of St. John's.

Gary Trent Jr. led the way for the visitors with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, with Marvin Bagley III adding a further 19.

Shooting was not the issue for the Blue Devils who hit a reasonable 47.1 per cent from the floor. Instead it was turnovers that doomed Duke as the ACC side turned the ball over 18 times, allowing St. John's 14 more shots than themselves.

That was enough for the Red Storm to win 81-77 in what was a prelude to an even bigger shock on Wednesday when Chris Mullin's side upset top-ranked Villanova.

Meanwhile, the defending National champion Tar Heels have been inconsistent all year with a 2-4 record against ranked teams.

Losers of three in a row, North Carolina welcomed in the Pitt Panthers over the weekend and destroyed the ACC strugglers 96-65.

Pittsburgh has been poor since Jamie Dixon left for TCU and a change seems likely for the Panthers sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, North Carolina are 3000/1 to win the NCAAB Championship, with Duke 3000/1 and Villanova 10/11.
