Bearcats continue to roll

The Cincinnati Bearcats improved their record to 22-2 on Tuesday with a 77-40 victory over the UCF Knights at the BB & T Arena at Highland Heights in Kentucky.

Freshman guard Trevor Moore came off the bench to lead the hosts with 14 points on 4-of-7 from the floor with three other Cincinnati players in double figures. Despite the one-sided nature of the game there were warning signs for the Bearcats who hit a paltry 39.4% from the floor, a performance that will likely see them upset if repeated against the SMU Mustangs later this week.

And indeed, the more you look at the overall record of Cincinnati, 3000/1 to win the NCAAB Championship, the more it appears that the Bearcats are over ranked at #6 in the nation according to the Associated Press.

Undefeated in American Athletic Conference play with an 11-0 mark, Cincinnati have yet to play second-placed Wichita State although they will do so twice in the final five games of the regular campaign. The Bearcats' non-conference schedule was unimpressive and Cincinnati lost each time they stepped up in class to Xavier and Florida.

The cross-town Musketeers on the other hand, currently ranked fifth by the AP, appear much more solid. Xavier have defeated four ranked teams and their losses to Villanova and a then in-form Arizona State make sense within context.

Only the other defeat, to Providence, seems out of place and it seemed that the Musketeers got caught looking forward to their game against Villanova. With Creighton and Seton Hall on the slate before the rematch with the Wildcats, Xavier will do well to remember that particular lesson.
