Warriors make winning start
LeBron James scored 51 points and Kevin Love had 21 points and 13 rebounds but the Cleveland Cavaliers still lost Game 1 of the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors 124-114 in overtime at Oracle Arena in Oakland.
Leading the way for Golden State, 8/5 to win the series 4-1, was Stephen Curry, as the 30-year-old point guard from Akron, Ohio had a team-high 29 points while pulling down six rebounds and dishing out nine assists for the game.
At the end of regulation the Cavaliers, 33/1 to win the series, had two free throw attempts when they were down by one point. Cleveland hit the first, but missed the second and JR Smith picked up the rebound. Curiously the shooting guard, formerly of the New York Knicks, somehow didn't know the game was tied and ran out the clock after the rebound at the rim.
The Warriors outscored the Cavaliers 17-7 in the overtime frame to cruise to victory. In the final two seconds the Cavaliers lost Tristan Thompson to an ejection and he will potentially miss Game 2 after his flagrant 2 foul at the end of the contest.
James had one of his all-time best games, as the 33-year-old power forward from Akron, Ohio had 51 points while pulling down eight rebounds and eight assists for the game. The former most valuable player of the NBA has the dubious honour of now being the first player to score 50 plus points in the NBA Final and lose the game.
