C.J. McCollum was on fire from the beginning of the game Wednesday evening, as the Portland Trail Blazers blasted the Chicago Bulls 124-107 at the Moda Center in Northern Oregon.

McCollum scored a franchise record 28 points in the first quarter and the 26-year-old shooting guard from Canton, Ohio finished with a career high 50 points in only 29 minutes of action.

The 6'3 guard did all of his work in three quarters, as McCollum joined Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors as the only player to score 50 or more points in less than 30 minutes.

The Trail Blazers have slowly been climbing the Western Conference standings, as Portland currently sits in sixth place in the West with a record of 29-22 on the season after winning their fourth in a row.

The hosts are only one game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for fifth place.

As such the Trail Blazers are expected to be active at the trade deadline, either trading pieces or trying for a late-season push to the top half of the Western Conference.

Leading the way in defeat for the Bulls was Zach LaVine, as the 22-year-old point guard from Renton, Washington scored a team high 23 points, while dishing out two assists for the game.

Saturday, Chicago heads down the West Coast to play the Los Angeles Clippers, while the Trail Blazers travel to Toronto to take on the Raptors in the opening contest of a three-game road swing.

Portland are 4999/1 to win the Western Conference title, with the Thunder 4999/1 and the Houston Rockets 29/20.
