Caroline Wozniacki secured her first ever win against a world number one.

World number one Karolina Pliskova has been knocked out of the Rogers Cup after being defeated 7-5 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 by sixth seed Caroline Wozniacki.

The Dane found herself 5-1 down in the first set and 4-2 down in the third, but kept her composure to beat the Czech player in three hours.

She will now face Sloane Stephens in the semi-finals and is 1/3 to win the match, with the American 12/5 to prevail. Wozniaki is 9/4 to win the tournament outright.

This was Wozniacki's first ever victory over a world number one, in a rain-affected match in Toronto.

Speaking after her win, she said: "Almost every tournament I've played this year there has been a rain delay, so at this point I just have to laugh because I feel like it is following me.

"Every time this year when it has been raining I've had a great tournament, so I thought this must be luck."

Due to the rain, the remaining quarter-finals will be settled later on Saturday. Fourth seed Garbine Muguruza of Spain leads Ukrainian Elina Svitolina by one set (6-4) while Simona Halep, the number two seed, has yet to face Caroline Garcia of France.

Halep is 3/10 to win this clash, with Garcia 5/2. Halep is 5/2 to win the tournament outright.
