Kyle Edmund.

British number two Kyle Edmund suffered a quarter final defeat to Stan Wawrinka in the Brisbane International.

Edmund, ranked as the world number 45, took the first set via a tie break but Swiss star Wawrinka fought back to claim a 6-7 (2-7) 6-4 6-4 victory.

The US Open champion and world number four will now take on Japan's Kei Nishikori in the semi finals.

Wawrinka is preparing for Australian Open, a tournament he won in 2014, and the 31-year-old is 12/1 to win this year's edition of the Grand Slam event in Melbourne.

World number one Andy Murray is 13/8 to secure the title for the first time, Novak Djokovic can be backed at 13/8 and Nishikori is 25/1.

Murray is in action on Friday as he faces Tomas Berdych in the semi finals of the Qatar Open.

Should the Scot progress, he will come up against either Djokovic or Fernando Verdasco in the final.
