Serena handed Stosur support
Serena Williams has been backed to break the all-time Grand Slam tally of 24 of Margaret Court by former US Open champion Sam Stosur.
Williams has 22 major titles to her name heading into 2017, having won Wimbledon this year after losing in the finals of both the Australian Open and the French Open.
Serena is such a great champion, I wouldn't be writing her off breaking records, that's for sure.Sam Stosur
And Stosur expects the veteran American to add to her tally, with the Australian Open in Melbourne a matter of weeks away.
"I would certainly not be writing her off getting another one, two, who knows?" Stosur told the Australian media.
"It doesn't get any easier the older you get. I certainly know the differences between being over 30 to being 24. It's backing up every day, that's what becomes harder.
"But Serena is such a great champion, I wouldn't be writing her off breaking records, that's for sure."
Williams is priced at 5/2 to win the crown in Melbourne for the seventh time in her career, with world number one Angelique Kerber 10/3 and Garbine Muguruza 10/1.
Meanwhile, Eugenie Bouchard is confident that she will be able to climb back towards the top of the game, having slipped to 48 in the world rankings by the end of a difficult 2016.
The Canadian, the beaten finalist at Wimbledon in 2014, is determined to regain her place in the top ten, with her ultimate aim to land a Grand Slam title.
She said on her arrival in Australia: "It (a return to the tennis elite) is not a question of if it will happen, but when.
"I don't know when, but if I work hard good things will happen. My ultimate goal is win a Grand Slam, but it's baby steps."
