Angelique Kerber continued her excellent start to 2018 by thrashing Camila Giorgi in the semi-finals of the Sydney International.

The German, who struggled throughout 2017, has now won all eight of the matches she has been involved in since the turn of the year after easing to a 6-2 6-3 victory against the qualifier.

Kerber will face Ashleigh Barty in the final and is 4/7 to beat the Australian and claim her first title since she won the US Open in 2016.

It will be Kerber's first appearance in a final since last April in Monterrey and she can now be backed at 1212/1 to win the Australian Open outright.

Meanwhile, Heather Watson failed to reach her first WTA final for two years when she was beaten by Elise Mertens in the semi-finals of the Hobart International.

Watson won the title in Tasmania three years ago but slumped to a 6-4 1-6 6-2 to the Belgian, who is the second seed at the tournament.

Mertens is 8/13 to beat Mihaela Buzarnescu in the Hobart International final.

Watson will face the world number 50 Yulia Putintseva in the first round of the Australian Open next week.
