Juan Martin del Potro said he had enjoyed a special week in Acapulco after beating Kevin Anderson to win the Mexican Open.

Securing his first ATP 500 title since the Swiss Indoors in 2013, he beat the South African 6-4 6-4 in the final in a commanding performance in which he didn't face a single break point.

I beat three Top 10 guys in the same tournament, which is very important for myself.

It caps a successful week's work for the Argentine player who also beat Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem en route to the final.

He said afterwards: "From the beginning until the end it has been an incredible week. I've had a bit of luck in the whole tournament and fortunately I was able to win.

"It's a very special tournament to me. I beat three Top 10 guys in the same tournament, which is very important for myself. I'm so glad to win my 21st title playing in Acapulco."

The win takes Del Potro up to number eight in the world and confirms his comeback to the top of the game after losing so much time to a debilitating wrist injury.

It was his second final of 2018, having lost out to Roberto Bautista Agut at the Auckland Open at the start of the year.

Anderson has also had a good start to the 2018 season with Acapulco being his third ATP final of the year so far and he beat Sam Querrey to win the New York Open last week.

Del Potro is 33/1 to win the French Open, the second Grand Slam of the year with Roger Federer 1212/1 and defending champion Rafael Nadal priced at 2/5.

The Mexican Open also saw some British success with Jamie Murray winning the men's doubles title alongside Bruno Soares while Heather Watson won the women's doubles with her German partner Tatjana Maria.
