Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond was full of praise for Denny Solomona after his hat-trick of tries helped beat Northampton.

The Sharks beat the Saints 34-25 at Franklin's Gardens in a victory sealed during the first half.

Sharks led 31-6 at the break, Solomona's hat-trick being added to by another try, from Marland Yarde. Faf de Klerke scored all four conversions and added two penalties to help Sharks to a comfortable victory.

He's got to do well to push through for England, but the coaches are going to be watching these games.

The bonus point win keeps the Sharks in touch with the top four. They are currently seventh in the Aviva Premiership table seven points behind Newcastle and Wasps who sit third and fourth respectively.

Northampton meanwhile continue to struggle this campaign and they are 10th in the table having lost 11 out of their 17 Premiership games so far.

After the game Diamond was full of praise for Solomona who has now scored 10 tries so far this season.

He said: "We've been really disappointed during the past couple of weeks, but there's only one game this year where we've lost without a bonus point.

"Denny has just signed a four-year contract with us and he's fantastic. I knew when I first met him he would score tries and he's getting better every week.

"He's got to do well to push through for England, but the coaches are going to be watching these games."

The Sharks now have a three-week break before they resume with an Aviva Premiership game at home to Worcester Warriors on 24th March.

The Saints play next on Friday night when they travel to face Bath in the semi-finals of the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

The Sharks are 1212/1 to win the Aviva Premiership Grand Final with Exeter Chiefs 6/4 and Saracens priced at 8/15.

Sarries are 1212/1 to win the European Champions Cup for the third successive year.
