Myler calls for defensive focus
Richie Myler has called on Leeds Rhinos to focus on their defence after two successive defeats.
The reigning Super League champions followed up their 38-4 defeat against Melbourne Storm in the World Club Challenge with a disappointing 23-6 domestic defeat at Widnes Vikings last Sunday.
The side's hopes of making a quick response against Catalans Dragons at Headingley on Friday night were scuppered when the inclement weather conditions forced the club to postpone the game.
Our defence was a long way off last week. If we are better with the ball we'll make it a bit easier for ourselves, but our D is the big focus this week.Richie Myler
It means their next fixture is against a Hull FC side, who beat the weather on Friday to record an impressive 21-12 win against the Warrington Wolves, on home soil this coming Thursday.
It moved the Airlie Birds level on points with Leeds and half-back Myler is looking for Brian McDermott's side to go into the fixture with the onus on being difficult to breakdown after conceding 61 points in two outings.
On Leeds, who should have Anthony Mullally, Tom Briscoe, Ryan Hall, Joel Moon and Carl Ablett available, Myler told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "There was a lot of effort last week, you can't knock that, but maybe we lacked some smarts at certain points in the game.
"There were a few penalties that really hurt us and we conceded a couple of soft tries.
"Individually and collectively as a team we have to be better."
He added: "It doesn’t help with a lot of changes to personnel. We’ve had a lot of players coming in and maybe we were a bit off, but that doesn't negate what we did in D [defence].
