Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott said he was proud of his players after they had beaten St Helens 16-14 on Friday.

The victory leaves Leeds three points clear of third-placed Hull FC in the Super League table while Saints are a point behind Wakefield who are in fourth spot, with four Super 8s games to play.

Castleford Tigers have confirmed top spot in the table but Leeds are now well-placed to finish second which would guarantee them a home semi-final in the top-four play-offs.

McDermott aid afterwards: "I thought we were extremely good. I've never not been proud of our players although I don't say it too much. I'm proud to be their coach after the display on Friday though.

"I don't know where we got the second half display from. Saints were great, beating us off the deck in the first half and we never got to grips with their play-the-balls.

"We rolled up our sleeves and did some hard work, we should have executed better. It was a great game of rugby league."

Leeds are 6/4 to win the Grand Final in October, while St Helens can be backed at 9/2, Castleford at 8/15 and Wigan Warriors at 500/1.
