Kodi Nikorima is ready to get back in action for Brisbane Broncos after a long injury lay-off.

Nikorima will play in the Broncos' trial game against Wynnum Manly on Saturday.

I feel like my body will be right for Round 1 so we will just have to see if Wayne picks me.

The New Zealand international dislocated his shoulder against the Storm in Round 17 last year and the club opted to send him for surgery to resolve the problem long-term.

He said he was nervous about getting back into action, but felt ready after resuming contract training.

"I've done all the preparation that I can do so I can't wait to get on the field. I'm hoping I'll get over half a game," he added.

"I feel like my body will be right for Round 1 so we will just have to see if Wayne (coach Wayne Bennett) picks me."

The 22-year-old will start on the bench for Brisbane on Saturday but is expected to play in both the halves and at hooker throughout the match.

Nikorima has played 36 games for the Broncos since making his NRL debut in Round 2 of the 2015 season.

He earned the first of his four New Zealand caps later that year, coming off the bench against England in Hull.

The Broncos showed their faith in him last September when they re-signed him for two more years.

The utility admits his shoulder problem will be on his mind when he takes the field this weekend.

"But you can't go into a game thinking about injuries too much because that's when injuries do occur," he added. "It will be there a little bit but not too much. I'll be in the halves for a bit of the match but then some hooker later in the game."

The game will be the last chance to impress for any of the Broncos' squad members who didn't travel to the UK for the World Club Series.

Brisbane are 1212/1 to win the grand final.

The Broncos are 500/1 to finish in the top four.
