Manly rally to get past Tigers

Captain Daly Cherry-Evans engineered a come-from-behind victory for Manly as they saw off Wests Tigers 28-16 at Lottoland.

The Tigers took the lead with just over 20 minutes left, on the back of three straight tries.

But in-form Cherry-Evans, who had sparked his side's two-try start to the match, combined with young stars Jake and Tom Trbojevic to seal the victory that cements their top-four spot with seven rounds to play.

There were plenty of positives from the visitors, also, who played as well for an hour of the match as they have since Ivan Cleary took over as coach earlier this year.

The Tigers saw halves Luke Brooks and Tui Lolohea combine well, while Blues stars Aaron Woods and James Tedesco were excellent in backing up from Origin.

Woods played all 80 minutes at prop and finished with a match-high 194 metres and 37 tackles while Tedesco proved a constant threat with 176 metres and seven tackle busts.

The Tigers did well to overcome the loss of hooker Jacob Liddle after just four minutes with a dislocated shoulder and back-rower Joel Edwards to concussion just before half-time.

Shaun Lane grabbed the opening try for Manly on seven minutes, latching onto Cherry-Evans' short ball. The skipper then produced a 40/20 kick to put his side back on the attack and Matt Wright took a cut-out ball from fullback Tom Trbojevic to double the score.

The visitors got on the scoreboard on 24 minutes when Frank Winterstein fell off a belligerent run from Joel Edwards.

They took the lead after Manly centre Brian Kelly let a Luke Brooks grubber slip through his fingers, with Esan Marsters cleaning up the scraps.

Brooks grabbed their third try six minutes after the break when his grubber bounced back off the post and into his hands to make the score 16-8.

The home side then took control, Wright bagging his double from a simple overlap play and Aku Uate reclaiming the lead when he blasted to score under the posts.

Nine minutes from the end a lovely sequence of play from Cherry-Evans to five-eighth Blake Green sent Tom Trbojevic into space close to the line, and his older brother supported for their final try.

Manly are 4/5 to win their next game against St George Illawarra, who are 21/20.
