Threading aims for Coronation glory
Mark Johnston is targeting the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot with Threading and connections feel it is shaping up to be one of the strongest races at the five-day meeting.
Threading got back on track last month with a wide margin success at York in Listed company, impressing on her first attempt over the mile trip.
Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Alpha Centauri is set to turn up alongside French scorer Teppal. Newmarket winner Billesdon Brook could still receive a supplementary entry and Charlie Johnston, assistant trainer to his father, admits it is a hot-looking race.
He feels last year's Lowther winner fully merits a place amongst the top-class fillies.
"The Coronation is probably shaping up to be the race of the meeting now the English, Irish and French 1,000 Guineas winners could all be going there," he said
"It's going to be a very tough race, but we saw in the Lowther last year, Threading is a very high-class filly. It is hard to say what level her performance was at York last time, but the manner in which she beat them was of a top-class filly, so I think Ascot is the place to go."
Threading can be backed at 16/1 to win the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot on 22nd June.
