Beckett hopeful on Verse return
Ralph Beckett hopes to have 2015 St Leger winner Simple Verse fit in time to run in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot on British Champions Day next month.
Simple Verse has not been sighted since she finished last in the Gold Cup at Ascot's Royal meeting in June.
Beckett was forced to abort plans to run in the Goodwood Cup the following month after the daughter of Duke Of Marmalade met with a setback in her prep work.
Simple Verse finished third in the Long Distance Cup last season and Beckett now says she'll go straight to the two-mile Group Two contest on 21st October, which she is currently 14/1 to win.
"Simple Verse won't appear until the race on Champions Day she is entered in," confirmed the trainer.
"She has just taken a while to get over the muscular issue she picked up in the run-up to the Goodwood Cup.
"There is really little point trying to rush her. She won't be ready for the Cadran as that is only a few weeks before.
"It is a shame, but we have got just under six weeks to get her ready for Ascot."
Trainer Aidan O'Brien meanwhile has yet to win the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day, though he could rely on Order Of St George to end that statistic.
Victorious in the Irish St Leger at the Curragh on Sunday, Order Of St George is now 6/4 to take the big stayers' race at Ascot's end of season showcase meeting.
Gold Cup winner Big Orange missed the potential rematch with runner-up Order Of St George at the Curragh on account of the soft ground, Michael Bell's charge is 5/1 to return to Ascot next month and grab more glory in the Long Distance Cup.
